I have known Burgess Design Group Principal Jon Burgess for the vast majority of my almost 2 decades in residential land development. Jon and the team at BDG provide a high quality level of service and expertise, and most importantly as principal, Jon is actively engaged in the projects BDG are appointed to. It is this active engagement that saw BDG appointed as the lead consultant on the St Leonard’s Estate project in Dayton.
Burgess Design Group has been involved in St Leonard’s Estate since assisting with its acquisition in 2004. They have prepared, coordinated and managed Rezoning, District Structure Planning, Local Structure Planning, Subdivision, Local Development Plans and other miscellaneous planning applications over this period. The suburb of Dayton, which has been entirely master planned by BDG since inception, has an anticipated overall yield of more than 3,000 housing lots, so is a substantial project.
The BDG team has always been highly committed to providing great quality service and expertise – delivered at a very cost effective price. They are astute in their thinking and understand the balance between great planning and commercial outcomes.
I would happily recommend BDG as a town planning consultancy and continue to actively use them today.

I first met Jon in the early 1990’s when he was the senior planning and urban designer consulting on the Landsdale Gardens Estate project for North Whitfords Estates. Jon then assisted my family and our neighbours in Landsdale with preparing our own properties for acquisition by a land developer, including helping with the creation of a subdivision that included a retained lot for our existing house.
The suggestion to retain our existing house helped us to maximise financial returns from our property, as we were able to keep our house, sell the balance of our land and then later sell our home for development purposes.
Jon was always polite and courteous, with a sound knowledge of his field and a positive approach to all aspects of the application, negotiation and development process.

I just wanted to express my appreciation for what you are doing in regard to the Maida Vale re-development and structure plan.
As you are well aware normally the structure plan is normally undertaken by the local shire or a developer and in either case the current land owners rarely get the opportunity to influence the structure or stay on the property. Until you came along I don't believe Maida Vale was a current project for the Shire who have had other priorities to deal with, nor was there a developer looking to take it on as a project. So potentially it would be many years before this process was undertaken either by the shire or by a developer.
The time and effort you have undertaken to work with all the land owners to give them options to sell or retain lots and influence the design is amazing and is unheard of when dealing with a developer. You're approach genuinely seems to be about working in the best interest of all parties.
Thanks again for your time and effort I look forward to working with you in the future.
Mirvac is a leading Australian property group, with integrated development and management capabilities. Mirvac’s development business has exposure to both residential and commercial projects throughout Australia.
The Burgess Design Group has been involved in our Highland Estate, Jane Brook project since assisting with its acquisition in 2006. This project has involved amendments to the Metropolitan Region Scheme, City of Swan’s Local Scheme Amendment, Structure Planning, Subdivision Applications, Local Development Plans and a range of miscellaneous planning tasks.
Built on a challenging site, this unique project includes a range traditional residential homesites, special residential (2,000m2) lots and special rural sized one hectare lots, setting it apart from conventional housing estates.
The project has been highly successful and won an Urban Development Institute of Australia (WA Division) Award for Excellence in 2013.
The Burgess Design team have always been professional, very easy to work with and helped expedite many planning approvals. Their ability to build relationships with key stakeholders assisted in the project being a success for Mirvac.
Burgess Design Group was appointed by Cedar Woods to prepare, lodge and negotiate an application seeking approval to a Display Home Centre at our Rivergums Estate in Baldivis.
We were very pleased with the work undertaken on this project, with a high quality application being prepared, submitted and approved within only a few weeks of appointment. All within our agreed budget.
Given our very positive experience, we would highly recommend Burgess Design Group to assist with town planning and urban design projects in this regard.

We were recommended to Jon by one of our clients, we wanted to seek approval for a number of tourist chalets on our property in the Swan Valley to complement our bed & breakfast approval and our design studio/craft shop.
Jon and his team at Burgess Design Group prepared all of the necessary applications and negotiated approvals for us, including dealing with some difficult neighbours during our consultation process.
The Burgess Design Group team were extremely efficient, the plans and sketches prepared for us were way more professional than anything we had seen before and very easy to understand.
It was always a pleasure to visit Jon’s office as all members of his team were so polite and accommodating, while their knowledge and understanding of the workings of the City of Swan made it easier for us to achieve all necessary approvals through our local council.
We recommend The Burgess Design Group to anyone or corporate body looking for the best in this sector, they are second to none.
