Site responsive design is integral to Highland Ridge; facilitating significant land-form retention as development grades up the darling scarp. This includes utilising rural landscape lots to protect the prominent ridgeline. Existing access trails used for historic clay extraction activities were also integrated into the design to tell a story of its past.
Integrated built-form controls were utilised to protect the unique landscape character. 3D Visual Landscape Assessments informed the location of building envelopes, local development plans provide a framework of planning controls, and design guidelines provide guidance for built form outcomes.
Sustainability is at the core of Highland Ridge. 977 native trees were retained – over two thirds of the existing trees – to protect the Black Cockatoo population. This was supplemented by extensive native planting, along with memorials on titles to ensure the long-term protection of existing vegetation.
